Sports Direct stockholders have cross-file unhappiness with founder Mike Ashley, electing in large numbers against his re-election as director.
Mr Ashley owns 62% of the company, so was overwhelmingly backed to continue in the capacity as expected.
However, nearly a quarter of independent stockholders therefore voted against his re-election.
Sports Direct is under pressure to appoint a brand-new investigator, but stockholders were told no decision had been made.
Mr Ashley has been criticized by a spend spree which has construed Athletics Direct buy countless struggling retailers. His retail empire includes massive swathes of the High Street.
